The challenging trading environment of the crypto market, in which a shift from millions to billions could happen in under an hour, requires a great deal of effort from a single individual.

While this effort may not be productive for an individual, it can prove an effortless endeavour, with attractive rewards, for a group of enthusiastic investors.

This is why CrocPot was born.

The Project. The Story.

 

The Protagonists

 

CrocPot is a light-hearted name used to identify a community of investors who participate in a combined "pot" of crypto assets. Selected by the governance DAO, these assets vary from stable investments, like BTC, ETH and more, to NFTs and many other forms of blockchain-based assets.

CrocPot operates in a similar way to a hedge fund, in that assets are acquired, held, traded, and sold by and for the profit of the Pot Holders.

 

The Plot

 

CrocPot is a new product from the Boston-based startup company responsible for the Stockcroc app.

While strictly connected to the Stockcroc brand, I was asked to develop a new, edgy CrocPot brand that would both convey a sense of familiarity for Croccers, and feel fresh to new investors.

The first step was to design new brand assets (logotype and look and feel) for the CrocPot app.

To maintain a sense of familiarity with the existing Stockcroc app, I adapted the same colour palette and typography (for the crypto assets) to the new brand language and interface of the CrocPot app.

However, I also designed and developed an entirely new visual language that remains as playful and humorous as the original StockCroc brand.

From the starting point of a plain geometric logo, I created a series of illustrations that introduce different concepts and benefits to CrocPot members.

The second phase involved asking investors to become Pot Holders by minting an exclusive pass. There are four levels of membership (passes), and each minted pass represents the associated % ownership stake on assets in the pot (along with definite perks).

Current hedge funds are reserved for accredited investors. Most of these funds have high management fees and require rigorous references.

CrocPot's goal is to make cryptocurrency ownership and investing approachable and fun for everyone.

For this reason, the app’s interface is straightforward, yet it retains the brand’s playful approach.

Using the "instant pot" metaphor, the app presents different assets as the combined contents of a huge pot. By scrolling into the screen, users can browse all of the assets. The user can also choose a simpler view (list) to browse the available assets.

At any time, investors can mint another pass and increase her % of ownership. However, what makes CrocPot fun and challenging is that passes are limited to a certain number and are only available for a specific period.

This adds a unique level of gaming (and urgency) to the application, which is rarely found in other hedge funds.

 

The Results

 

To date, many Croccers (Stockcroc investors) and new members have joined the Pot.

Some enthusiastic investors have also bought a large number of passes (which are beautiful to own and trade alike!) as well as inviting external members to join the game.

The next step for the CrocPot brand is introducing investors to different ways of trading their passes in order to maximise gain.
