The Project. The Story.

The Protagonists

AVAC has tracked the field for decades, identifying numerous opportunities for improvements and breakthroughs in the ethical development and equitable delivery of HIV prevention options. Their ultimate goal is to achieve global health equity.

With so much ongoing news to report, AVAC’s website couldn't keep up with the volume of information.

The new design aimed to restructure the site’s architecture, to help visitors find what they need quickly.

The Plot

Allegiance Group's design team and the art director Kathi Bhar had conducted extensive research on AVAC’s target audience and desired user experience.

Their research highlighted specific goals related to the site’s re-design, which included:

  • Show AVAC's unique value by highlighting the organisation, its partners, content, and the different ways in which people can engage.

  • Connect the dots for the audience about what AVAC does and why it matters.

  • Continue to present AVAC's trustworthiness and credibility.

With these goals in mind, I designed the user experience to be both intuitive and straightforward.

The first step was revamping AVAC’s digital presence by reviewing their colour palette, typography, and imagery.  I also included design elements that would create a simple yet beautiful visual narrative within the site.

The absence of images prompted me to find a colourful solution for text-heavy pages and articles. Drawing inspiration from the concept of AVAC as both a connector and a critical conduit for diverse audiences, I introduced a red thread to link different blocks of content.

The website offers various resources, such as videos, news, reports, presentations, and events. I implemented a content categorisation and visual labelling system with a set of clear icons that represent different information types, to help users find what they need quickly.

Beautiful and bold typography is used throughout the website to create a hierarchy in strong, long-form content and ensure easy skimming.

Lots of content, including data, testimonials, author biographies, and the Clinical Trials database, has been redesigned to help increase AVAC’s trustworthiness whilst improving their discoverability and legibility.

The Results

The Allegiance Group developed and launched AVAC's new website at the beginning of 2023. The website is now more accessible and better promotes its high-value content to AVAC's global audience and partners.

It is the digital representation of AVAC's mission to ensure universal access to comprehensive health options, on their path to global health equity.
